Fraud or scam – Know the difference?
Although the terms ‘Fraud’ and ‘scam’ are often used reciprocally, they are different. a While fraud happens without your participation, a scam requires your involvement.
Common examples of fraud include card skimming, where your card information is modified by fraudsters. The victim is not a participant.
However, with scams, direct requests for money are made, which may look genuine leading to a payment authorisation with the victim only realising their mistake later when the actual suppliers show up.
How to respond if fraudsters contact you with an investment opportunity
If there is no prior relationship with The Family Office Africa, please know that the firm, will not contact you under the guise of offering investment opportunities. However, if we have an existing relationship with you, contact our firm through the appropriate channels.
Be mindful of future attempts
If you have been approached by fraudsters in the past, they may try to contact you again through a different method. This could take the form of pretending to work with reputable financial firms or law enforcement. We advise that you remain cautious in dealing with any external party.
